Sanitas

Hygiene in the kitchen
can become better!

For better hygiene

Did you know that kitchen sponges are considered a “dream home” for bacteria?

Sanitas is aware of it and, as the kitchen expert, stands by your side to educate you on how often you should change your kitchen sponge.

According to research, sponges are among the most germ-infested items of a household. Due to extensive moisture and food trapping inside of a sponge, they can contain as many as 5,4 billion bacteria per cubic centimetre. Over 362 different species of bacteria have been found in sponges such as Salmonella, E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

How can we stay better protected against bacteria?

Replace your kitchen sponge every second week, without a second thought! By changing kitchen sponge frequently, you can minimize the risk of bacterial growth. The recommended frequency of switching to a new sponge is every 2 weeks, depending on usage, washing conditions and the size of each household.

Keep your sponge clean for longer

  • Rinse your sponge with plenty of water after every use
  • Drain well
  • Let the sponge dry in the sun or by hanging it to the sink
  • Replace your sponge often!

The best prevention against bacteria is to replace your sponge frequently, since the above tips delay but do not inhibit the growth of bacteria.
